Report: Cardinals 3B Nolan Arenado opting in on five-year, $144M contract

It appears the St. Louis Cardinals will have Nolan Arenado manning the hot corner for another five years.

Arenado has reportedly told the club he will be opting in for the remainder of his contract that will pay him $144 million through the 2027 season, according to Cardinals reporter Katie Woo of The Athletic.

The 31-year-old third baseman from Newport Beach, Calif., had a slash line of .293/.358/.533 with 30 homers and 103 RBI this past season — his 10th in the majors and second with St. Louis. He also hit for the cycle, the second time in his career, on July 1.

Acquired in a trade from the Colorado Rockies in February 2021, Arenado has a career .289 batting average with 299 home runs and is a seven-time all-star, nine-time Gold Glove Award winner and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner.
