‘I’ve lost my smile’: Blue Jays fans react as Hernandez moves from Toronto to Seattle

It started with a rumour on Tuesday, and on Wednesday it actually happened — the Toronto Blue Jays have traded Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi initially speculated about a Hernandez trade for Mariners starter Chris Flexen, since both players are eligible for free agency after the 2023 season.

Instead, Toronto is getting some bullpen help in Erik Swanson, and a pitching prospect in Adam Macko.

So how do Blue Jays watchers feel? Some seem to have lost their smile — something Hernandez brought to the club on a daily basis.

Some Blue Jays fans decided instead to focus on the positives and thank Hernandez for his six seasons in Toronto.

In the Pacific Northwest, Mariners fans were happy to wake up to news of a trade.

And they weren’t the only ones happy. Boston Red Sox faithful won’t be missing Teo-bombs at Fenway Park this upcoming season. Same goes for New York Yankees faithful.

In general, the trade — and the return — came as a surprise to baseball fans.
